To explain self-defeating behavior, or self-sabotage, Dr. Govan in 2006 proposed a new model of human behavior through his theoretical dissertation, Self-defeating Behavior: The Theory of the Evolving Psyche.
Scholars from the United States, Canada, and elsewhere have used ideas from this model.
Since its original publication, Dr. Govan has refined and extended these ideas, which now include a proposed mechanism of treatment for reducing self-defeating behavior termed collectively "moderative psychotherapy."
A new manuscript including these critical updates is being prepared for publication.
